The Kansas City Woodworkers’ Guild is comprised of members who are dedicated to the following Safety Program goals and objectives.
Join the Safety Committee in taking some time to review key safety attitudes you should have while working in your shop. Everyone should be taking personal responsibility for his or her own personal safety in Guild and his or her shop. With so many new woodworkers joining the Guild each month, it is important to reinforce the things that may seem like common sense to an experienced woodworker. Even experienced woodworkers can always use a refresher on these key safety attitudes.

Where is the Tornado Shelter in the Shop? The bathrooms and the nearby classroom have been designated tornado shelters in our new shop. If a tornado siren sounds, depending upon how many people are in the shop at the time, the bathrooms are the first choice as a shelter. If a tornado siren sounds, during a meeting, the bathrooms and classroom are the shelter. Prior to arriving at the shop, be aware of the weather conditions in the area. § Tornado Watch means that conditions are conducive to the development of tornadoes in and close to the watch area. § Tornado Warning - A tornado has actually been sighted by spotters or indicated on radar and is occurring or imminent in the warning area. § Severe Thunderstorm Watch - Conditions are conducive to the development of severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. § Severe Thunderstorm Warning - A severe thunderstorm has actually been observed by spotters or indicated on radar, and is occurring or imminent in the warning area. Shop safety extends to you being aware and seeking shelter if the tornado sirens sound while working in the shop.
